Works well providing you give time to let soak through.
Brilliant for removing artex from a ceiling, hard work though
X-Tex coating remover worked well on artex. Ideal for small jobs to remove artex containing asbestos before drilling. It is a gel and can be scrapped off with the artex after an hour so, Keep it misted with a water spray to ensure it's safe to remove (no dust). I think a larger area will be messy but acheiveable. Must dispose of debris in a proper asbestos council tip in wrapped bag.
Great product, made light work of the artex removal. brushed it on sparingly then after an hour wait came off easily with a scraper
Bought this to strip my hallway ceiling, painted on and left for 1.5 hrs didn't really make much of a impression so I left it on overnight under a very thin sheet I bought from Toolstation for £5. Next morning after spraying it with warm water I armed myself with a bladed scraper, its coming off in large pieces like wallpaper with the occasional hard spot. Two armed scraper with a arm like Popeye is best.
very poor performance; I had better luck with wall paper glue which is much cheaper
Struggling to remove artex seen X-Tex advertisement placed an order was ready to pickup in less than 20 minutes excellent
Made removing a textured paint a doddle. Tried everything else. Only this Worked. Apply it thick and cover it with black bin liners. Leave it for about 3+ Hours. The textured paint turns in to a goo which can be scraped off. The paint sticks to everything so wear shoes that you’re happy to bin. We referred to applying x-tex as Gooping. :)
I bought this to remove textured paint from a ceiling (not artex, it was sandy, like sandtex). It worked perfectly. Yes, it's messy, as you'll be scraping off a sticky goo, but if you cover the floor adequately and plan how you proceed you can keep the mess under control. I used a long handled 6" sharp bladed scraper, which I'd recommend. The ceiling is mostly back to plaster, although there are some patches of the paint that was under the textured stuff remaining, so I'll need to deal with those before painting. All in all, I'm very happy to see the back of the dreadful patchy ceiling.
Great product. In a previous life I thought it a good idea to Artex the walls in our hallway, not a good idea it was difficult to clean and great for spiders. Having now got round to decorating the hall the problem was to safely remove the offending coating as it may have contained asbestos. Enter X-Tex it does what is says on the packet follow the directions and it come of easily. The only drawback is it is very messy so it is wise to cover everything well to save any problems.
I purchased this product to remove old artex from my walls. I would highly recommend this product and the assistance from toolstation staff at their brierley hill branch.
Really easy to use and really pleased with the end result. If it drys too much before scraping then just brush some water on it.
Ok, so we were very sceptical regarding this product. Wow, how wrong were we. We had the old fashioned bark effect artex and this ate it. Absolute game changer. FYI don’t be shy when slapping it on. Leave for an hour or more then just scrape it off. EZ
Great product easy to use, just paint on leave 1hr. Then take off with scraper
Great product works well, pity that Toolstation try to keep flogging the Completesavings cashback scam. Please watch out don’t tick the box because you’ll incur a monthly charge for nothing in return. I’ve complained to Toolstation but they keep trying to trap the unsuspecting well meaning customer!!!
I bought this to remove some stubborn (luckily non-aspesdos) artex. Not only has it done this, it has also helped remove some other stubborn paint around the house.
Did not work - followed the instructions, watched YouTube videos and still didn’t work after trying various different methods. Example waited an hour or waited 24 hours even covered it with plastic but poor results
Used on thickly applied textured coating to ceilings previously tested for asbestos content. Painted on carefully and left for one hour, blue gel softened coating allowing for very easy stripping, right down to the ceiling board which was in good condition. Long handled scraper with a sharp blade was key to fast stripping. Subsequent mess horrendous so everything needs dust sheeting and protection. Such is the mess I wouldn’t use unless asbestos is completely absent.
I used this to remove artex from my ceilings and it worked very well. A bit messy, but definitely kept dust down a lot. My artex was fairly thin so I did not have to resort to covering the x-tek with plastic sheeting and I found that leaving it for about 40mins was long enough for it to do its job. Despite the claims, I would still recommend wearing an approved mask and maintaining a well ventilated work area as there will be dust and although the fumes are not bad, after a few hours you will be aware of them. Also, make sure you use disposable shoe covers.
Needs to be applied liberally but works well and is pleasant to use (unlike traditional paint strippers!).
