This was old expired two years ago stock and there does not appear to be any new stock anywhere in Toolstation. Check date before you buy otherwise the expired tester will indicate soft water when it is actually hard.
Make sure to look at the expiry date as sometimes it can be very short and you may need to reorder this item to get a longer period of use for this product.

THE TEST KIT WORKS OK BUT IT ONLY HAS LESS THAN 3 MONTHS BEFORE IT IS OUT OF DATE. SURELY THE KIT SHOULD RUN LONGER THAN THAT. IF YOU CHECK YOUR STOCKS I SUSPECT YOU WILL FIND YOU HAVE HAD IT IN A WHILE.
I live in Cambridge and the water is a little hard. I have a water softener machine installed but I didn't know how to calibrate the "reflush" cycle. Using the kit I could observe that the water hardness was 400ppm (hard water) before cleansing the water softener device, and then 60ppm (soft water) after the device. I am very satisfied. Furthermore, I will be able to 'geekily' use the kit now and then to observe the water becoming more hard, to then need to recharge the water softener.
Used to check water hardness for my coffee worked great.

About as cheap and basic a test as you can get, for a rough idea of water hardness level. Which can be used for go/no-go checks with water softeners.
