Good stuff, does the job well! Easy to mix, no problems.
I’ve used Thistle Undercoat Plaster for several repair jobs, and it’s consistently been one of the most reliable basecoats I’ve worked with. The mix comes together smoothly, spreads easily, and gives you plenty of workable time to get the surface flat and level. It’s ideal for building up depth on uneven or damaged areas, especially in older properties where the background can vary from brick to patchy masonry.
The adhesion is excellent, and once applied it firms up evenly without cracking or pulling away from the substrate. It takes a scratch coat well and provides a solid, dependable key for finishing plaster. I’ve used it for everything from deep patches to levelling out rough sections of wall, and it performs brilliantly every time.
Drying time is what you’d expect from a proper undercoat — not rushed, but steady — which helps avoid issues later on. Once cured, it creates a strong, stable base that takes a skim coat beautifully.
Overall, this is a high‑quality undercoat plaster that’s easy to use, forgiving for DIYers, and dependable enough for more demanding repairs. I’d happily recommend it to anyone preparing walls for a smooth, long‑lasting finish.
Thistle Undercoat 7.5kg bag is perfect for a small job, Easy to mix & use if your not that good at this stuff. Even an electrician could use it after wiring it's that easy! but we all know that will never happen 😃
and if you don't mix it all you can save it for next small job as it's in a plastic bag! Bonus
Good size bag for smaller repair jobs , saves getting the bigger one .
Great product, really would recommend . Do what it should do
Normal gypsum quality but in a handy repair size needed only small amout to patch up after carrying out some electrcal and plumbing work.
Great undercoat, used on brick wall to replace blown plaster
handy size for my repair of just under 1 sq. m. STAYED WORKABLE FOR A LONG PERIOD ON VERY DRY BRICKWORK.
The small bag is very handy, but not economical in price in relation to a 25Kg bag but I don’t need a car to pick it up. I chose to do it this way for convenience.
I recently used Thistle Undercoat Plaster and was really impressed with the results. It was very easy to work with, mixing smoothly and applying without any hassle. The consistency made it simple to spread and control, which saved a lot of time and effort. Once applied, it bonded well and gave a solid, even base that looked great straight away.
The finish was fantastic – it provided the perfect surface ready for the top coat, and the overall job came out far better than I expected. I’d definitely recommend Thistle Undercoat Plaster to anyone looking for a reliable, user-friendly plaster that delivers professional results.
Excellent product as a build up layer of plaster - DIY user
Bought two bags of base plaster. At home saw one was in date, other 2 months out of date. Indicates a lack of any check procedure, both on a regular basis and on an check when handing over to customer.
I have not repaired plaster for years, but the simple instructions on the pack and the excellent quality of the product meant that the job was done no bother.
Two suggestions: a smaller pack size would be better for minor repair work and the instructions should also mention the desirability of wetting the sides and back of the hole that is to be filled.
Good stuff, great for initial big holes, quick to go off and the best thing it doesn't shrink
Pretty good stuff from a reliable brand, one bag will do a decent area
Bought Thistle undercoat plaster to patch some sections of crumbling old plaster before final skim coat. Nice handy bag size so less waste. Easy to mix and apply though takes a bit longer to dry than expected.
The small bag of undercoat plaster was perfect for the small repair job I had. Easy to mix, does exactly what it's designed for.
The best undercoat. Used for filling in channels in wall for TV cables.
Excellent. Good build quality for large holes. Skims well.
Nice size, ideal for patching up cable chases, don't end up wasting a whole bag
