Tried this on brick, the cutter did not last 30 seconds before it came loose, other reviews warned of this, I tightened it and got another 30 secs. I had used the circular cutter to start and went to about half depth then tried the box cutter. I gave it one more try then gave up on it and used a hand chisel to square the corners which made a good job of it. Useless
This does bit says, better on block but still works
Really decent for the money can't fault it, I knocked in around 40 single and double gang back boxes for 32mm boxes. Still going strong.
Hard to cut through soft walls and slow the chisel doing better job
Works really well in the concrete wall. Saves hours.
Cuts well to square off the rotary drill for single box and does the double using the same pilot drill holes - brought to try when on offer and glad I did
I've made the first square hole successfully but its already showing signs of wear on the edges
Does what it is supposed to. Have only used it on regular brick so not sure what it is like on engineering brick. Best used with the 77mm circular cutter (use the cutter first and then square the hole with the box cutter). You need to take out the small corner pieces of brick with a small chisel to complete the job. If using this on a single wall, be careful of how deep you need to drill the pilot hole. The pilot bar is around 30mm long so depending on how deep you need the box to be, you might punch through the other side of the brick!
100% but this tool! The time you save is phenomenal. Even for a small job it’s well worth the money!
Used this on 4 out of 5 conversions of single to double sockets. Once you’ve drilled the main hole with the circular tool, this tidies up the corners that are left. Pretty quick. Neater than using a chisel. The nut does come undone but once the cutter is in the socket it doesn’t really matter. Just nip it up before going again. Agree that the arbor is too short especially if you’re doing 37mm boxes. Most of mine lined up by eye and the arbor found the hole as I cut in. No good on concrete block.
Good product and excellent service, fast and easy to use,
Great Tool, cut two switch boxes with good precision (with the help of the circular hole cutter 1st), and at a quarter the price of other shops
Works a treat but does require the big grinding drill bit to go with it.
Cuts out a clean square. Used this to cut into traditional brick built walls. Took a bit longer than the 2 minutes as the brick was tough. Manged to cut single, double and 2g+1g triple hole's with this one cutter. Use this allong with the circular cutter. Have a spanner handy as the assembly will slacken in use, and need to be tightened. A small price to pay for the amont of holes this has cut for me. I fund if I cut the hole half way and then squared it then cut the second half, I worked best for me. I was cutting out for 35mm boxes.
This is designed to be used in conjunction with the rotary cutter. To be fair the rotary cutter is good while the box cutters are ok. The instructions call for pilot drilling first, the using the rotary cutter to get to depth before finishing off with the box cutter. If you follow the instructions the pilot arbor on the box cutter is not long enough to reach the original pilot hole. Going part way in with the rotary cutter then following up with the box cutter works better. The box cutter gives a neat outline but is probably not necessary if you have a decent sds chisel.
