Good service from start to finish. Very polite and professional staff
This guide feels incredibly cheap and whilst it is possible to achieve very sharp results it's very difficult to set square especially with chisels. I note Paul Sellers uses this in a video, which is why I made the purchase, but, save the money you'd spend on this and seek a better quality item.
Bought this kit as my wood chisels resembled screwdrivers. Found it easy to use after reading the card instructions as well as watching a tutorial video.
Rubbish. Save yourself the money and buy a proper roller honing guide. They’re only about £10 normally. If you’re sharpening a plane or chisel this won’t achieve the razor edge you need.
Excellent peace of kit, bought it to sharpen my swords. Now i have no blunt swords.
Simple to set up, measurement tag is plastic, not sure how long that will last, but quickly brought a chisel back to life. Instructions are way too brief.
Purchased this to bring my hand plane blade and wood chisels back into proper shape. You use the flip over guide to line up to cutting edge of the blade to achieve the correct angle. My only negative criticism is it is difficult to be sure how square the blade is in the clamp guide as the guide itself does not have a nicely machined surface to refer a square to. Starting with the darker side of the stone and using plenty of water, it took some time (hours) to get my plane blade correctly shaped before I altered the angle from 25* to 30* and once that was honed I then changed to the lighter finer side of the stone for a more polished finish. Using a more corse stone or diamond equivalent would have sped things up to get the blade ready for the Stanley stone. In comparison, a small chisel was shaped and honed in less than an hour. I just wish I could be more confident in how square the honing is other than best guess and eye sight. Also as someone else has mentioned, a case to keep the stone and guide safe in would be welcome.
Great item, good price. Instructions are graphical and take a while to work out, but my chisels are now razor sharp
Plastic wheels ..Does not grip the chisel securely.. very time consuming to fit chisel in straight .. stone is crap took 20 mins to just hone to an acceptable level ..
Effort free 2 grades and guide what is not to like
Good quick and efficient sharpening and good quality stone
Does the job ok for the money homing guide and way to set up at correct angle
Works well, and easy to use. My chisels are the sharpest they've been since I got them.
Decent stone and attachment for the money, easy to use.
Could do with a bag or case for once it's oiled.
Great product for the price. Handy little guide that keep your chisels sharp at same degree
Not a bad sharpening kit, it does its job and doesn't cost a fortune
Worked ok at putting edge back on my chisel set. Guide takes a little patience to set up , but fairly straightforward after. Not bad for the price .
does what is meant to do, easy to get to grips with after a little practice.
Precise sharpening, taking out all the guess work of freehand sharpening.
I have not been kind my wood chisels over the years.
I have tried to sharpen them when I can using an old whetstone but that was no longer flat and so I had a hunt around for some new sharpening ideas. Time is not on our side for doing these sort of tasks and whilst I was taught ’how to’ by eye, there are now much better products on the market and this is one of them.
The instructions are minimal but if you know how to sharpen chisels then you can work it out. I spent a few hours squaring up the ends and then sharpening them up. The width/length guide on the chisel holder is simple enough to use. It holds it true and then you simply roll it back and forth on the lightly oiled whetstone. The whetstone has two different grade faces to use. Only thing is I can not remember which is which and for what I want my chisels for it does not seem to make a difference to me. B
I seem to use it less now as the chisels are easier to keep sharp using this product.
Pretty good, but the honing tool does on occasion slip for a chisel above 3/4 inch wide.
