Simple to use and sturdy piece of kit. The angle adustment edge simplifies placing it along the piece you are working on to mark and cut.
After reading the reviews already posted I had to write one of my own. The first thing everyone needs to understand is that those leaving poor reviews are people who clearly are NOT skilled carpenters, nor do they understand how to use this tool. I have owned and used one of these squares for over 30 years and it has been one of the best layout tools I’ve ever owned. It is perfect for rough framing, siding and aluminum work, and is an incredible time saver. The only complaint I could possibly make about it is that the adjustment knob is just a little too tall, and that can interfere with some circular saw bodies when using it as a guide - which is one of the areas where it otherwise shines. If you “need” a manual, maybe start out with a simpler version from Swanson or whoever. Your lack of understanding is not a design flaw of the tool. I also find it hilarious that a couple of Brits can’t figure out the imperial scale. Those of us who actually know what we’re doing found this square to be one of the best tool innovations in carpentry in more than a generation when it first came along, and decades later, I’m still using mine. In fact the only reason I’m here today is because I was looking for another one just like it for a new coworker.
I cannot fathom why Stanley cannot bother to post a Manual and provide a link to it on the product webpage.
The link that was found and posted by the reviewer under THE ILLUSIVE MANUAL now returns a blank pdf, and the file to be found at the Wayback Machine is corrupted.
“The Measure of a Pro,” indeed.
A great product is a must when working with angles once set stays in place.
It’s a square, made from aluminium. Easy to read and seems durable
Rating as 3 only because it's applicability is not clear... Love tools & work with wood but i'm not a professional carpenter. In my opinion and from what is presented in the manual (hard to find it), it should be descripted as a tool for roof carpenters. Well constructed and robust. Works for me as a marker to define diferent cut angles, maybe a guide for the cutter itself.
Very solid square easy to read great price sutible for all trades and D.I.Y enthusiast
Thought I would read the manual as advertised on the product packaging.
The product page says nothing available.
Pretty poor really and amateurish.
No sale.
Whats going on here?
I don’t live in usa or canada. No other option in review form
Does what it should, made from a decent strong plastic. Just make sure you know your mark-cut lines are correct before cutting!
Great roofing square, made things super simple. Easy to read and use with clear writing.
Great buy simply to use and allowed me to quickly and accurately set out all rafter curs
Bought this as I was building a lean too roof over an extension
I’m a joiner by trade and should have had one of these years ago.
Save’s using a couple of bevels and changing angles all of the time.
Bought this to guide a jigsaw cutting across laminate flooring. Found that it needs re-calibrating from time to time as the knurled wheel does not always hold it very firmly. However, with that proviso, it was very useful and made the job much easier. Have not yet tried it cutting angles other than 90 deg.
This is an excellent square. Well made in a heavy aluminium with clear numerals and with a broad adjustment on both sides of the square for larger timber joists, making it very easy to use. Definitely worth getting for any rafter or joist cutting.
Got this as I had quite a bit of angled woodwork to do I found this square really helpful when marking out and cutting its decent quality and a good price too
Got it for the roof angles on me shed. Works a treat, once set it cut all the wood at the correct angle. Easy to use and robust
