This is a good product for repairing joists. I repaired the base on my decking by cutting out the rotted piece and splicing in a new piece.

A timber joint using these plates is extremely strong and they’re easy to install straight.
What can I say - its a splice plate - it joins pieces of timber effectively.
Splice plate 4x3 was perfect for joining 2 4.8m lengths, needed loads of twist nails though, two used per joist.
Perfect repair plate. A once fitted I drilled 3 x 8 mm holes either side of joist ends and used coach bolts to give a good tight fit
Did a job on varanda from. Replaced rotten joist. Perfect for the job.
Very easy and swift to buy this product click and collect from my local store. Needed it to repair a joist under my decking and this it seems to have done very successfully. Only time will tell. One slight problem is that because of the L shape the area available for screwing back the decking planks was very restricted. I would still recommend.
Very sturdy but be prepared you need a lot of nails
