This Roughneck splitter is better than i though, makes easy work of tough wood that my splitting age wouldn't touch. Well worth the money and looks like it will last for years.
Hi. This pointed weed wedge works very well to split up splices of tree trunks as chopped up by my tree surgeon. I used my battery drill to put in an 8mm pilot hole to hold the wedge in a start position then hit the wedge with a medium size lump hammer on metre long handle. Slices without branch attachments split very easily. Slices with side branches were a bit more difficult but it still split with a bit of persistence.
Really handy piece of kit, this is the second one I have bought and continue to be impressed by its performance. Used in conjunction with a 4lb sledge hammer splitting hard wood logs over 500mm in diameter with ease. Top tip ring and split logs while wood is still green makes the job a lot easier.
The Wood Grenade certainly makes Wood splitting easier than wedges.
Does what it is meant too, happy with product, good quality
boom and the wood brakes easy . I found its easier to drill a hole to stand it in then hit it ,
This is the first wood grenade we have bought so I can’t compare it to anything. However, it does exactly what we need to, splits hardwood logs. Been giving a good bashing and aside from the gold paint coming off a bit, looks good as new.
You need to be precise with your aim but once you have the technique down logs explode 👍🏼
Can't rate at present as it is a birthday gift but meant to be good.
Easy and effective way to split logs a 10 pound sledgehammer gives best results
Excellent tool. Does the job really well.Recommend.
Works well. Can easily be driven in with a Maul though can occasionally get stuck
Much easier than using an axe to split logs. I use a couple of taps with a club hammer to start it, then one good wack with the sledge does the trick.
Great piece of kit, used it the same day as purchased on several logs varying from two to two and a half feet in length and approximately one foot in diameter.Several good hits with a splitting maul and logs were in pieces.
Needed to split 10 inch thick rings off Silver Birch, great tool design. Did this with ease.
I’ve had one of these for a couple of years, and as long as you’re sensible and start towards the edge of a log, you should have no problem in splitting the logs into useable sizes. Bought this one for my daughter for Christmas. Wouldn’t be without it!
It does work - even on hardwood, but it does need a good whack with sledgehammer!
Good piece of kit so far, but have only used it once
Works far better than I would have imagined. Even in big logs of hardwood, a few good whacks with a heavy hammer and the log splits up. A club hammer did the job for me, but a sledge hammer would no doubt deal with any really tough stuff.
This works fine on logs upto around 12 inches long.
I use a club hammer to smack it in before swapping to a sledgehammer for the main whacks.
Obviously the dryer the wood the easier it’ll split but overall this is a good tool and fit for purpose but be aware it needs a few good heavy whacks to split a log
