The trenching shovel is sturdy and well designed. It makes the task of digging a trench, well below your feet, not too hard.
Bought to dig a trench around the edge of a patio, to take footings for a decorative brick edging. Works well - the crank angle helps a lot and the width is just right. Seems tough and should have a long life!
I bought this to lay a new underground water pipe on our allotment. It worked very well, shifting just enough earth to make a narrow trench for the pipe. With the blade inserted vertically into the ground, it goes down about 25cm, an adequate depth. Good for, say, 50 metres of water pipe; any more and it would be worth hiring a mechanical pipe layer.
I bought this trenching shovel as I needed to dig a 0.8m deep x 45m long trench to lay ducting for services, and wanted to minimise the damage to the garden. The small width of the shovel is ideal for digging a narrow trench and the long, light weight handle makes lifting the soil quite easy. The shovel has a pointed leading edge, which helps penetrate more compacted earth.
Great tool for cleaning out patio drainage channel if you can't kneel down - scooped the rubbish out real easy.
Very good for digging out narrow, deeper trenches for pipes/cables.
Really pleasantly surprised by how strong and well made this tool is. It has enabled me to make short work out of digging a trench. Highly
recommended! And tool station too for superb service.
Useful for narrow trenches. Shaft could be a little bit longer for the deepest of trenches . If you use it correctly shouldn’t bend, however I wouldn’t use it to pry/dig/scrape out the trench, better tools exist for that, and the Join at the head doesn’t look substantive enough for that. but it works like it was intended to- clearing out of the bottom of a trench: not problem.
Made light work of digging a 10m long trench at 600mm deep for some cable in heavy clay.
Does the job. Robust with good reach
Really 4 1/2 stars, only loses the half as when trying the loosen clay at the bottom of the trench, the grip at the top of the handle twists. I fixed it with 6 self tappers (3 either side) now works a treat. Blade is strong and very hard wearing. Cracking tool that made life much easier, very glad I bought it.
Decent length, and has a good rake. Haven’t used it yet, but it seems well made so I have no doubt it will do the job.
This trenching shovel was a great buy. I needed to cut a trench to lay kerb stones and this did a great job, including cutting through compacted stones which formed a drives surface.
Brilliant tool, makes laying cables and pipework far less messy than with normal shovel, copes well with stones
Good tool for trench digging
Excellent sturdy tool better then a spade for quick digging of soil in narrow trench
Excellent for running water pipe
Arrived on time. Just what I needed at a good price
Really good tool, excellent for digging trench, would have been very difficult without it.
