Clogged up within minutes absolutely waste of money
Made life alot easier - solid -easy to use and clean after too.
Using a rather wet premix of pointing mortar i found the gun clogged very quickly. Adding more water just made the mix too runny to fill the pointing gaps I'd made. I'll experiment using a plasticiser next time. Very frustrated.
Excellent for filling tight gaps used for grouting in between deep quarry tiles
Unless you mix the mortar 100% consistency, once the water content been pushed through, you might as well throw it in a bin, solid lump of water less mortar is left in the tube.
Bought this to point up a wall, saved time especially up a ladder. Only thing to note is to use a plasticizer as without the mortar won't flow.
Quality is not as good as it used to be.
Not a tight fit and mortar comes out of the end socket thread.
Very easy to use and clean added a plasticiser to the mortar and it made the whole process easy
Start by getting the mix right and the tool will make clean fast work of pointing. Raked out & repointed a 3 bed house in 7 working days. 6705 bricks!
What a brilliant bit of kit and does exactly what it says on the tin. Works perfectly with normal mortar consistency and the usual amount of plasticiser and minimal pressure is needed on the trigger to pump. The gun is really well designed and extremely robust. The tube body rotates for different angles and is removeable for easy cleaning. I was a bit scepital about buying it from the other reviews, but my experience has been faultless and the item has exceeded all expectations.
The Roughneck Mortar gun was ideal for "replacing" some difficult (vertical) cracked mortar joins. They were in corner locations and trying to use a "mini trowel" was well nigh impossible. I "found" the Mortar Gun on Toolstation website and this was in stock for immediate collection. So easy to use and very reasonable priced. I would recommend
this simple tool which saved me hours of frustrating work.
Requires plasticiser in the sloppy mix to get a just about useable system. It doesn`t tell you this in the instructions.
To have it working well the key is to have the mortar mix right. It needs to flow well. This is achieved with plasterciser. Get the mix right and you won't go wrong with this product.
Easy to use and gets the job done. Make sure you use plenty of washing up liquid in the mortor and and mix it wtter than you would normally.
It was easy to use and easy to clean. It did the job with no effort the loading tool was good too.
For me this is a perfect tool for the job. I can see others have given negative reviews, but, based on what I needed for a fairly smooth mix to gun in to gaps in my pavers, this works a treat :-)
Like others have said especially diy`ers, my first mix didn`t work after after a few pumps, it just ended up as a"slug" in the gun and woundn`t extrude. Fortunately, I had another go and made the mix slightly less wet and bingo, worked perfectly ! I think everyone saying you need a wet mix leads one to making it too wet, yes wet, but not too wet, and definitely add plasticiser. Also, if you release the pressure on the push rod before retracting the gun from the job, it greatly reduces the excess mortar dropping from the nozzle.
All in all I`m glad I tried again as when you get it right, I think it works brilliantly.
This is my second one. The first one had an angled pointing end but this ones are square and not so easy to use.
Followed instructions for mix , constantly bunging up , gave up after constantly stripping and emptying compact mortar , complete waste of money
Please do not believe negative reviews they are either using it wrong or not using the correct mix we did50sq mtrs of porcelain tiles with cleaning up and having a break in 5hrs it makes certain you fill up all of the voids in joints plus not as much mess as using a grouting screed to fill .
