A Great tool for digging out old hedges and dead shrubs . Seems very sturdy ,
Just the right weight, tough and useful tool, comfortable handle, earned it’s money already
It works very well for roughing out the ground and axing through roots. It good for cutting trenches. BUT the handle needs to be a bit longer to strike the ground, because you end up being quite hunched which is painful with time. ALSO there is an eye hole at the base of the handle exactly where you grip which rubs the palm of your hand badly this is sinful! No real reason for this eye hole to exist. No one is hanging this in shed.

Strong bit of kit, collected local and very happy with the product. I do feel it could do with a securing screw/bolt at the top as I feel a little uneasy it being held in its own tension. Not a fault of Toolstation, just a design tweak for roughneck.

Good basic tool made to last and is just the job for the hard bits. Good buy, even if a bit heavy, but that’s why it works.
Great tool, used for digging a long trench to lay a brick border in my garden. So much better than using a spade or pick axe. Weighted just right and loved the fibreglass handle. Do make sure you select the correct mattock with either a pick or an axe head on the other end as they do different jobs
My daughter ordered this for me. As l am disabled, on crutches, but still archive around farm. She was hoping it would help me around my stables and yards as it was must lighter then my old pick axe. Well l can say she picked the right tool fort to use, why its because it's very light weight for me to handle but still does the same job as my old pick axe. At 73 and on crutches l am well pleased with this tool.
I had never used a mattock before but have enjoyed using this to dig into compacted earth and remove bamboo roots. I like the weight of the tool and the nice handle.
Brilliant bit of kit
I was struggling with a fork to get rid of bramble and bushes etc, bought this and it tore through them, even with my ageing, aching bones. Thoroughly recommend it
I've snapped three garden forks in the last year whilst clearing an overgrown border containing bamboo. I had never heard of a mattock. But it'll be my tool of choice from now on. So much easier to attack root balls etc. Even when surrounded by apparently rock hard soil.
