This works really well but no prizes for the inadequate instructions which do not explain how to release the tension once one has 'used up' the full length of cable to continue the pull. Once you know how it's done it's easy, but I had to look on the Internet to see how...
Good strong Pull Winch, easy to use, and good value for money.
For the price, this is a no brainer.
We had to manoeuvre some big steels and this winch did the job.
Excellent, got my lawnmower out of a sticky spot. Easy to use, robust, great bit of kit for emergency
I would avoid this product, it’s sturdy and well made but suffers from a serious flaw in that the steel cable can work its way down the side of the metal bracket that’s designed to stop any backlash that the cable inherently has due to being wound round a relatively small diameter core for the diameter of the cable.
This happened before even using the product, I had to move the metal back to free up the cable, which did unravel a bit even though it wasn’t under any load.
Second time I tried to use the device to pull a load it jammed up and wouldn’t free up no matter what I tried.
Additionally, and this is something that is maybe common to all similar devices, when the unit is under load there is no way of slowly releasing the tension, and to try to do so using the ratchet release means your fingers are perilously close to the cable under load.
Full marks to Toolstation though, I returned it and they refunded quickly.
Bought this winch to help with some tree felling. It's not ideal since it's got a very short amount of cable (approx. 5m) but was all that I could get at the time.
The pulling capability of the device is quite good, but the problem comes when you need to release the spool to start another pull. It jams up against the mechanism and then you've got a major task on your hands to free up the cable.
The answer is probably to take off the guard that's set too close to the spool, but given the short cable length of the winch I've sent mine to landfill and will buy a proper tool for the job. If the pull length isn't an issue, I still can't recommend this device because it's just appalling. Whoever designed it did a horrible job, so don't reward them with your business!
Heavy duty kit, great to move large objects! Worked great but the reverse gear is a bit sketchy under tension, could do with some improvement to make it safer(hence 4 stars)! Worth the price, this will pull any vehicle out of a swamp, move trees just add some additional nylon rope if need a longer cable 👍
First time I used it the ratchet mechanism jammed and I couldn't release the tension. Took it back for a refund.
I opened the box and the winch was rusty so I returned it. Very poor product.
Great tool. I rather stupidly got my pick up truck stuck in a bog, the porridge like mud was almost level with the full height of the roadwheel yet this compact little winch, with help from a nearby tree, pulled my L200 free. Great value too.
Fine for pulling but the reverse mechanism on the one I purchased didn't work properly, impossible to engage safely. I returned it and bought a conventional hand winch which works in both directions, for a lower price.
Rubbish. You need 3 hands to untangle and mine jammed up so returned
It is cheap but works very well and has a clever mechanism. Operation is not obvious as the instructions are very poor. It actually works in both directions (controlled release of tension) once you realise how. I've tried to attach some pictures and instructions to help others (done for friend who wanted to borrow it), but there are videos online that give good explanations. I'm not sure how much I'd trust it at 4000kg but it worked fine for me pulling out old concrete fence post bases (with minimum digging).
Excellent done exactly what I wanted to do lifting the gate to drain a small lake 👌🏻
Very efficient at pulling my sit upon mower out of a ditch which it had slid down due to sodden grass. Simple to use once you had worked out which lever to press to release the winch rope (the diagram in the instructions was unclear).
Functional, but doesn't feel like the safest tool. The release hasn't really been thought through - needs two hands to release and they aren't at all ergonomic.
This seems to be ok at first. I used it to pull out some tree stumps. It’s not very well made so becomes loose then stops working. I tried two but they both failed due to the quality. I wasn’t allowed to get a third.
It is not intuitive to use and would be helpful if you have 3 arms to extend the wire. Its design could easily be improved
Robust, sturdy tool. Short 3m cable on drum.
Marked down for manual move weak spring for reversing / loosening cable. Good controlled pull. I would buy again. Job done
Great value for money, ignoring the odd function of the release catch mechanisms. Purchased this to extract a boat/trailer, with flat tyres, from the back garden. Dragging through mud, this winch performed the task with ease.
