I have found tallow excellent for thread cutting and inserting woodscrews. Can also be used as a flux for lead soldering.

Tallow very good for screws. Did not know it was still available Toolstation delivery very good so use again. Could do with catalogue
We use this to lubricate the leathers on the sculling blades of our Thames Skiff. The pot we had for the past 30 years had nearly run out so was very pleased to find some.
Had to buy two tubs as the big tub is out of stock everywhere and you can't buy tallow from that giant online seller named after a river. Its a dying art, soldering lead, and tallow is the flux you need - those ancients knew a thing or two. Leaded light repairs can now continue!
