Good for light use, maybe upgrade for heavy duty use
Used this bit to drill 20+ holes in porcelain bathroom tiles. Didn’t expect it to last but it did :-) Tip - Start at an angle at slow speed until it starts to bite then slowly move to the vertical and increase the speed. Keep dipping the bit in water every 5>10 secs to cool the tip.
No better or worse that any of the cheaper diamond bits , I used water for cooling and managed 6 hole then it struggled .
Very useful bit, it outlived two tile drilling bits on a very hard tile allowing a basket to be fitted to the shower wall
Seeing the mixed reviews and cheaper price I was a tad dubious about the quality of this drill bit, the floor tiles were rock hard but I was surprised just how good it was. I have drilled six times through porcelain and eight times through ceramic wall tiles and the bit is still usable. Without a doubt it is essential to constantly cool the bit in water I used a jam jar full off water for the bit and a water spray to soak the holes I cleaned the bit after every dip in the jar because it gets clogged.
I started every hole with a masonary bit just enough to prevent the diamond bit from sliding across the tile. I used a battery drill on the slower speed setting there are loads of tutorials on you tube that are well worth a look if you’ve not drilled porcelain before.
On needed to drill two holes in porcelain tiles. Did the job but not sure it would be good for many more.
I used to make holes in some very tough ceramic floor tiles. It took a while for each hole, but it did not give up. I make eight holes so far with this bit and there is no sign of wear yet, probably due to the built in cooling system i.e. the wax in the tip. It rests in my tool box waiting for the next job.
Did exactly what designed to do and done it well, still good after many holes drilled
used for one hole and wouldn't touch the next totally blunt, had to return unfortunately
Lasted longer then I expected for a drill mounted diamond bit
Had to return this as it only managed to drill 4 holes in Porcelain tiles.
Used it to drill about 30 roof tiles, without problem. Used it on a pillar drill and kept bit lubricated with water and didn't force it. Still plenty of life in it.
I drilled holes in 9mm thick porcelain tiles very easily and am impressed with this Drill Bit.
I was trying to drill 5 or 6mm holes in items of crockery and my existing drill bit was ineffective (using a bench drill, I applied so much pressure that one of the items broke). Bought this (plus other tile drill bits) to make progress. I have only drilled one hole so far but the bit performed very well and quickly drilled the hole thus I am fairly confident that it would be capable of drilling many more similar holes. There are a couple of notes of caution for anyone (like me) who has not used a dimond bit like this before. First: the bit does not have a point therefore it is necessary to hold the workpiece (or drill, if hand-held drilling into fixed object) if the hole is to be in the correct place. Second: unlike pointy tile drills, this is intended to be used at high speed (I used 2500 rpm, the maximimum on my bench drill). Trying to use a low speed tends to produce more movement in the workpiece before the drill bights. Third: The drilling is quick and agressive, thus there is a tendency for flaking where the drill breaks through. Thus if this matters, it seems best to try and reduce load on the drill before break-through.
Really good drill bit! Purchased after reading other reviews and was very satisfied with it! Pre drilled with a masonry bit to make a slight indent for this diamond bit to sit in and then simply drilled and started with water to keep cool. 10mm porcelain tiles, 4 holes and still got more life in it to go!
Works really well when you take your time and let the bit do its job. Don’t try and force it, works really well on hard ceramics. Recommended
The perfect tool for the job I needed to do. Service is always good in Horsham branch.
It did the trick. Cutting holes in tiles is tricky, but this tool worked for me.
Really pleased with this drill bit. I also bought the 7mm bit for the same job after trying out this one.
Drilled through porcelain tiles no problem at all.Start at an angle and away you go.
I needed to 15 holes and there was loads of life left in it to drill for all bathroom accessories.
This cutter did self drill as described. The first hole was quick! The tiles were the second hardest thing to I’ve has to drill through. It was good for six holes but performance did deteriorate after the third hole. Overall glad to have managed to complete the task where other drills wouldn’t even scratch the surface!
