Mexco Premium Slotted Dry Diamond Core Drill Bit 127 x 170mm

Despite initial reservations, this budget core drill got through 2 leaves of very hard imperial brick in about 30 minutes. Absolutely tears through softer brick and concrete block. Works fine with my SDS drill, although it would be useful if it came with the SDS adapter which has to be bought seperately.

Bought to replace one in a set, much better cutting.

Did the job ok. Not tried it yet as it's intended because I was expanding an existing 100mm hole, so it got a little 'jerky'.

Drllied through internal brickwork and external stone no problem

Went in store for advice to drill a hole through brick-cavity-breeze block external house wall for a 40mm waste pipe.
Was told this Mexco 52mmm diamond corer was the one that was the most highly rated. Usually would use a Tungsten Carbide bit. However, thought this would be more efficient. Box says NOT to use hammer action. Instructions show coring using an arbor then removing the plug and continuing. Applied light-moderate pressure and progress was steady. Then after 10-minutes the bit broke with 2 of the diamond “teeth” breaking off. Luckily not in the hole.
Did remove 20mm of core.
Bought an Erbauer diamond corer. Took forever to advance. Put way more pressure on it. Didnt break. Took me 2 hours though. Live and learn. Tungsten Carbide next time. Toolstation refused to refund the cost of the broken Mexco corer. Said i invalidated the warranty using an Erbauer arbor. Despite the store selling me the bit without an arbor and an extension bar with the wrong thread, and Erbauer having correct parts to fit the Mexco.

Worked well but went through engineering brick, so took time, as expected. Cheaper than hiring it and now always available for further projects. Even though it's dry cut, I still sprayed with water to keep the bit cool, and adds longevity to the bit.

Big hole cutter. Does what it says it does. Cuts holes. Just what I needed. Holes.

I had to cut a vent hole through two layers of very hard brick, it took a while properly because my drill kept overheating but this did the job. I would recommend this hole cutter for DIY projects.

Decent diamond drill for the price. Would buy again.

I needed an extra size that wasn't in my set - Toolstation had it in stock at a decent price. Did the job as well as dry diamond coring ever gets - i.e. messy with dust. Took time, but got through 3 cavity walls of high density concrete blocks.

Does what it says on the tin, in that case the box.

I was a bit sceptical, but it went through the concrete blocks without any problems. Just remember not to use hammer action.

Brought it to cut hole in ceramic slab which it did. Needs a water feed though.

Cuts fast and clean in brick, block and soft concrete. The slotted barrel clears dust well, so it doesn’t bind, and the 170mm depth is perfect for standard back-box/vent runs. Segments stay sharp with sensible pressure—don’t use hammer mode. Starts nicely with a guide bit; once scored, it tracks true. Minimal chatter, round holes, and slugs eject easily. Feels solid and outlasts cheaper cores, so the price makes sense if you drill more than the odd hole. Tip: use a clutch drill, start at a slight angle to score, then level off—and vacuum as you go for best speed.

This core drill is one of the cheaper units, it does the job but it took three times as long to cut through the 350mm of engineering brick. It is a tough test as these bricks are very hard. A more expensive core drill will give you the same result but much faster.
A good buy for softer bricks and blocks but for hard materials its worth spending the extra money.

Was really struggling to get a hole through the chimney breast and after days of only getting half way and other going blunt I purchased this and job was done in a few hours and doesn't even show any wear.
So i would highly recommend it 👌

Made short work of the wall I needed to cut a hole through for a pipe. The only small issue was that I didn't realise you needed to have/buy a separate attachment to connect it to your drill, but that wasn't expensive.
