I couldn't complain about this as it did exactly what I expected,
This simple no-fuss replacement for a complicated "pop-up" waste (which had failed and fell to pieces) did the job perfectly, so much so we bought another one to replace the pop-up waste on another sink. Bought a couple of nicer-looking plugs with a big ring pull too. All in all they look better, work better, and have no springs/mechanisms/leavers to fail. Keep it simple.

You know those fancy basin taps with the mechanism to lift the plug out of its hole? I hate them.
People lose or steal the plug part, then you're left with a gaping hole straight down to the waste trap, guaranteed to attract earrings, wedding rings, screws from spectacles, contact lenses, coins, beads, even charms from bracelets.
And so it was on my last job, with a bathroom sink missing it's plug and a bottle trap filled with rusty coins, earrings and a Monopoly house. It wouldn't have happened with one of these.
The rubber and silicone seals never seem to do their job, so I put a smear of clear silicone sealant on the undersides of the waste grid and the locking nut. Wipe it clean, let it cure, test for leaks. Job done.
Course, now you don't have anywhere to attach the plug chain to, but one problem at a time eh?
Good sink waste with stainless top as it is plastic do not overtighten.

Didn’t come with big but to secure in place as per photo. Returned and others didn’t have nut in unopened packets either.
Changed for a metal one with but at same price.
Simple basic but does the job . I had a leaking waste in a sink. Tried other products but this one solved the problem. No leaks. No other parts required.
Good quality product as expected from this manufacturer. I have fitted other brands in the past only to find leaks or the fittings to be temperamental (the odd drip here and there) hence the recommendation here. I replaced the old basin waste (non McAlpine product) as it had become discoloured over the years with the various harsh cleaning products used. The flow rate is fine and its is a good way to spruce up the basin! Importantly, the flow rate is fine.
The plastic nut slips on the plastic thread all day long, so you can't tighten it. Even a tonne of sealant won't stop the inevitable leak. Going to get the cheaper generic option & bin it.
The description and the pack shot chosen by Toolstation don't indicate that this Waste is *slotted*. This is a bit of a problem, if you want to use it with a basin without an overflow. (McAlpine's web site shows a different photo - clearly showing it to be slotted and their description is clear too. What a pity I didn't check there first - before the 30 mile round trip through the Devon countryside!!
