The item was new in the box and great condition but these are supposed to have a 10 year life, the expiry on this one shows less than 7 years which seems very short for a product in the £100 range.
Alarm that will send u a message if ur away, it’s great
Alarm bought in Dec 25, but manufactured in May 24. So 1.5 year of its lifetime is lost straight away. Shame Google don’t write the date on the box rather than only on the actual alarm.
It is the best smoke and carbon monoxide detector in the World. My favourite feature is the motion detection night light. Monthly sound test is nice too.
Too bad Google discontinued it. Otherwise I would have given it 5 stars.
A terrific step up over the traditional Smoke detector. Easy to install and get configured, no more confusion about which alarm has gone off plus remote notifications !
Best smoke detector - sad that it's being discontinued by Google. Grabbed 3 before they disappear
great product, had them on the main house and used on several projects. recomend
Totally disappointed with it, Please note Nest Fire Alarm series will be discontinued,it doesn't work with Google Hub 2 ( I should research more, AI gives wrong answers!) It was the only reason I bought it. I installed it in a remote garage which has Wifi and was hoping to get notification on Hub 2 which is located at home. How I supposed to get notification if my mobile phone is silent through the night?
My existing Nest protects were approaching their end of service life date, purchased a couple of replacements in July 2025 but expiry date of the new ones is March 2034 so I’ve already lost 16 months of service life from the new ones, poor really from a premium product
These have been on Toolststion’s shelves for 3 years, so you only get 7 years remaining out of the 10 years expected from the product when new. The Nest app does not allow you to use after the expiry date
In stock and latest build which was better and cheaper than direct from Google by £15.
Purchased July 25, manufactured date March 24. Unfortunately, there is no way of telling on sealed packaging. Nest stopped manufacturing last month, so the risk you take. Wanted to connect with Nest thermostate.
Fantastic product and easy to fit. Such a shame they’ve been discontinued- here’s hoping Google supports them for the remainder of their serviceable life. (10 years from date of manufacture, not purchase date!)
If there is a sexy smoke alarm, this is it........
Google products are really ready to install and use, it walks looks better than the battery equivalent, 100% recommend
Installation wasn't a breeze but instructions were clear, the only problem I had was the port for the alarm isnt dead centre so had to unscrew the mounting plate and rotate it round so the unit could fit on. You also can't use the Google Home app to setup, thankfully it refers you to the Nest App to setup
A good product but installation would be simpler if there was a dedicated dry lining box for it.Google don’t appear to have considered that
This is are very good alarms. Like all alarms they have a shelf life, in the case of Nest it is 10 years. Toolstation are selling old stock which is date stamped July 2023. I purchased in January 2025, so I lost 1 1/2 years of life!
We’ve had nest smoke alarms installed for nearly a decade with no faults. Pathlight is brilliant at night. Keep the alarm away from dust and debris during install and I suggest using small connectors than the included wago connectors in the box.
This is one of those products that you hope you will never find out how good it actually is. What I can say is that it was really easy to install and the set up via the app was simple too. We like the way it announces that it is about to go off so you can cancel it if you have just burnt the toast.
The motion sensitive night light is an added bonus. The promise that it will never chirp in the middle of the night to say it needs a new battery is very welcome. It is expensive, but possibly worth it.
