Well worth it, made installation so much quicker and easier, this base is the as the BETA smoke detectors I was replacing with regards to 20mm hole cable entry and screw slots.
Fitted by electrician as it saves ceiling damage from wiring terminals. Not very deep so they don't make the smoke alarms unsightly. Could have been a DIY job but not keen on working off step ladder at the top of stairs.
Handy base but not needed as the old bases fitted well

Great item easy to fit needed for the fire Angel smoke alarm
Simple fitting, doesn't add much extra depth to the fire alarm so it doesn't really make it any more obvious or intrusive, this isn't needed as the alarms come with a fitting plate, I just wanted replacing the battery to be an easier task. This has 3 tabs you put a flat head screwdriver into and pry gently while lifting the alarm and then it just pops off leaving the wiring in place

Worth the extra expense just for the ease of wiring. Should come as standard with the smoke alarm rather than the too short bit of cable on a plug that is supplied. adds a tiny bit of extra height but when the combo is on the ceiling you dont notice it anyway
The base plates will give you more room for the wiring and make them easier to fit however, they do make the batteries harder to change when used as the fittings change from a twist release to a push fit. The 3 fixed clips have to be released to get at the battery which to some people might be a bit fiddly. On the whole a good product though.
Good product at a fair price
I was in 2 minds about buying these but was glad I did as it makes it easier to test the circuits before plugging in smoke or heat sensors. They are quite slim and not at all unsightly on the ceiling.
