I looked at a lot of CH programmers and finally decided on this one because it didn't seem to be too 'techy' and said it could be used without the app (my H is not keen on apps). It was duly installed and set up, but programming the schedule was quite fiddly (with or without the app), and I then discovered that in order to use it without the app, you had to actually de-activate or uninstall the app - it wasn't just an option.
However the main problem was that there was no simple way of overriding the schedule, if, say, you wanted the heating on all day. On the old Honeywell prorammer, you just pressed the On button, but on this one you would have to re-programme the schedule completely. There is a Boost function but that only works for a set number of hours. I rang Drayton and they were quite helpful, but my understanding was correct.
The final straw was when the thermostat then lost its connection to the receiver. It was in the kitchen, about 20ft from the receiver which is by the boiler in the utility room. I eventually managed to pair them up again by by then it was very cold in the house without any heating, and I had lost faith in the programmer. I returned it to Toolstation and bought a Hive which was duly installed the next day without any drama and works perfectly - either on the app, or manually, on the thermostat.
I think the Drayton RF901 is supposed to be a sort of half-way house between manual and fully digital programmers, but unfortunately it didn't work for us.
Full marks to Toolstation for their straightforward return and refund process, and the helpful staff.
Reliable easy to use room stat, user friendly not over complicated
Bought to replace a failing Dreyfuss stat/programmer. Straightforward to install, but better instructions please for setting up programs. The included instructions are very brief and the QR code provided required me to install the bluetooth app - something I did not want to do as this was for my elderly mother-in-law's home. Simple to operate once set up and running the system effectively. I like that it has both wall mount and free-standing options included in the box. Fits a standard backplate so I could simply swap the receiver over and didn't need to use the included backplate - but this appeared to be of a decent quality.
Great unit for the price. Easy to pair up once installed and instructions for use are pretty straightforward. Only to be installed by a Gas Safe engineer. Not a DIY job.
Purchased as a replacement of a similar Honeywell unit, the Drayton unit was easy to install. The receiver backplate is the size of a single socket back box. After isolating the power to the existing, transferring the four wires over the new baseplate terminals was straight forward, terminals marked N,L for supply and Com,1,2 for relay. The receiver then hinges onto back plate and secured by two screws from underneath.
The room thermostat (RT) transmitter is supplied with two AA batteries. Referred to instructions and powered up receiver, then powered up transmitter. The devices linked up and was indicated on the RT display. Further settings were accessed on the RT for permissible minimum and maximum temperature settings. An App is also available to download and connects/pairs with the RT using Bluetooth. I had no issues with setting up the RT and the App is a nice additional feature to have. Whilst the App is in use(connected), it locks out the local button control on the RT. The other settings on the RT are familiar to me, it allows for alternate temperature settings based on configurable times. This allows for more advanced temperature control; morning, day and nighttime temperature.
I found the product easy to use. The RT display indicates time, actual temperature and when there is a demand for heat, a flame symbol is displayed. The large increase/decrease buttons can be used to adjust the desired temperature and when depressed, the desired temperature is displayed instead of the time for a short duration. I find the product easy to use.
Really easy to set up and uncomplicated transfer to end user.
Nice big buttons and predictable functions.
Phone app is a nice touch but not necessary in the room stat installation where it is employed.
thermostat works well with no overshoot with boiler flow set at 55C
Worked perfectly easy to use fitting was simple straight out of the box
Replaced an older Drayton digistat 3 ,very easy to install, very happy
Excellent item just plug and play had a different version before but the backing plate for the reciever fitted the new version so no need to rewire.
Nice and simple or multi times of setting. Easy pairings
Good value product and low price. However, I did find the procedure to pair the stat with the receiver complicated, as for some reason, it did not pair automatically.
A very cost effective option if you have a combi boiler.
Easy to set up, good bluetooth app (albeit a little slow to respond initially). Would recommend if upgrading/replacing an older model thermostat
Great wireless heating control nice looking and works from your phone
Excellent product, used many of these for my customers. Toolstation price best I could find
Really cool little stat, feels solid and reliable unlike many no-brand wonders that pack out few weeks after installation. Love the option to run on Open-therm protocol, telling most advanced boilers to slow down getting close to the set target temp. Good reception too, well done!
Works a treat also the Bluetooth control via phone for someone that doesn’t want a wifi base one is ideal also relatively cheap considering what it does
Firs onto existing receiver back plate. Immediately connected. Seems complicated instructions though. No seeing how to immediately override heating on/off or up/down.
2 coming back with issues
Disappointing as it is costing me to go back and change for hive
Bought as a replacement for an older Drayton which was awesome, the only reason it was replaced was it got dropped into a dogs water bowl.
This replacement is ok. It can lock itself out and loose connectivity as is range from the receiver seems to be considerably smaller than its predecessor.
All I can say is it does a job ok, but I wouldn’t buy another.
