replaced faulty unit and now the central heating is working again
Toolstation needs to be more careful. It was used!!!
The new valve actuator fitted perfectly and did the job. We now have our central heating working again.
Just as the winter months roll in failure of the central heating system is not what anyone wants!
Managed to source this via Toolstation and works like a dream.
Identical Replacement for the last one that only lasted 2 yrs. Very dissapointed with how long it lasted before having to replace
Bought the best quality brand with an advertised 18month warranty (so I paid more) but it failed just before the 12months no-quibble period (microswitch is cheap), swap-out took a week to arrange by which time Toolstation Winchester could not exchange (but tried, thanks Sarah). Customer Services give you the run around and send you off to Schneider (who as expected have no contract to uphold with me) so back to Customer Services who tell you to go to Schneider....
So 2 stars for Drayton quality, 0 stars for Toolstation customer services.
My take away: buy cheaper brands from elsewhere, they're no worse.
Another top purchase of a Drayton 3 port mid position head unit from toolstation leek excellent service
This is an important part of my boiler system. I have just replaced it and this part has only failed once. Though I did replace it only six years ago due to the diverter valve failing, so I replaced the actuator as well. Because couldn't find the old one I came to Tool station and
replaced it. This Is a very reliable piece of kit, It's not cheap but you get 12 to 15 years of controlled hot water and heating.
Excellent to find this exact model in stock and available within 10 minutes- well done Toolstation
Fitted straight on in place of the existing failed item and is working as expected.
Drayton three port head, brilliant very easy to fit, straight forward and reliable. Originally fitted some years ago and had no problems but was then intermittent faulting but bought new head and fitted in 10 minutes
This Actuator is a breeze to change as long as you understand basic wiring diagrams and adopt a safety first principle by isolating the 240v supply to the junction box usually located in the airing cupboard adjacent the Mid Way Valve/ Actuator assembly. It’s wise to identify whether the Actuator is at fault (not moving from W to H ( W = hot water H = central heating). In my case the valve was seized and when the actuator is removed from the valve the spindle can clearly be seen, remembering this valve only moves a 1/4 of a turn but should be free to turn by hand, if you need a tool to move it the valve must be changed. To need reasonable plumbing skills to remove the valve once the water supply & return lines have been isolated and the local vent opened to depressurise the valve before loosening the compression fittings (have a couple of small towels handy!) If reuse of compression nut & olive is to be used I would wrap 3 turns of PTFE tape around the olives this provides a leak free joint when the fittings have been tightened. Reopen the supply & return lines & close in the vent when the air has stopped coming out and only water seen, check Integrity on all 3 joints, nip up slightly if any sign of weeping but do not forcibly overtighten!
Now the wiring. Ensure 240v supply isolated, this will normally be a fused isolation switch adjacent the HW & CH programmer, pull the 3 amp fuse for safety then verify with a Fluke or voltage meter that no supply. Is present at the junction box in the airing cupboard after removing the cover plate. Take a photo of how the wiring is configured then double check there are no live wires! Remove old wiring loom and the faulty actuator refit the new actuator using the photo as a reference for the correct termination of wiring. Mine was like a rats nest so the photo was essential to save time. Refit the cover plate and the 3 amp fuse and turn on the power to the programmer. Check for correct operation. There are lots of helpful videos on YouTube to aid confidence. The Drayton MA1 I removed was 26 years old so this is testament to a good quality product it also saved me circa £185 and only took a couple of hours. Job done after a quick tidy up!
Excellent product , easy to install , swapped wiring like for like
Had a British Gas mid-position valve. Hot water was o.k., but no heating. The actuator was faulty (BGMVSP-23). Searched web and found that Drayton MA1 actuator was a direct replacement. Found a Drayton MA1 actuator on Toolstation website, about £15 cheaper than anywhere else. Replaced the actuator the same day and everything working o.k. Good that Toolstation had it in stock and at a good price.
Speed of Service - cannot be faulted
Product Supplied - as required
Repeat Purchase - definitely
Great product quick and easy installation would definitely recommend
Industry standard part - just clips into place for an easy replacement.
Not much to say - if you need one, you need one!.
Exactly matched the previous one so easy to connect and working as planned
Needed a 3-port valve (turned around) to provide hot water priority. This is the quality I expect from Drayton and I have the knowledge that should the head fail it is easily swapped out for a new one.
A perfect piece of kit, I think the CORGI three port valves have a better flow rate, that maybe perception, systems appear more efficient.
