I wanted a decent quality, good value bench top pillar drill for my woodworking projects. This one from Draper seemed to be the best choice I could find after looking around. It was ready for pickup less than 24h after ordering (for store collection). The drill is easy to assemble and feels/looks solidly made. It’s very easy to use and it has already drastically improved the accuracy of my work (versus a hand drill). It’s heavy but that adds stability, and is still easy enough to move around the workshop. Very happy!
Feels a bit cheap , but that is because it is, does the job, not bad for the price
As a user of Draper tools now for the past 45 years I decided I needed a pillar drill and opted for this one. I am very disappointed with Drapers lack of quality and poor workmanship when constructing this drill, the table adjustment lever is far too short to do the job and digs into the palm of your hand every time you need to adjust the work table height, the castings are very poor and whoever put the Draper sticker on the top needs to get their eyes tested, as the placed in slanted. Very unprofessional. I will now have to at my cost have a longer bar welded onto the very short bar that Draper supplied so I can adjust the work table without damaging my hand each time I need to adjust the tables height.
Easy tonset up and works well. Good value for the price
Bought from toolstation recently and found it very useful. Its great for DIY work. Took out of box and easily set up. Adjusting the table for different heights is quick and easy. The tilt is easy but you need patience to get the correct angles as the markings are not as easy to read. However, a great tool for what I need. I do find the chuck guard a bit of a pain, as it doesn't clear totally from the chuck area to allow easy access to change drill bits, possible a little more movement away would be useful, but it is a necessity. The speed change is straightforward, and the whole unit is robust.
Very easy to assemble in just a few minutes and solidly built. Not used it too much yet and only for DIY. Guess it might not be the engineers choice but for the price it’s sturdy enough and good enough for the jobs I’m likely to use it for. Did find it a bit difficult changing gears, the belt seemed a bit too tight but maybe it’ll stretch in time. Didn't fit the chuck guard; fiddly waste of time but guess they have to supply it. Overall seems a good drill for the price.
Great little pillar drill. Very easy to put together out of the box and easy to use.
Highly recommended Pillar Drill excellent value for money, what’s more Toolststions delivery was second to none in great time
Something I should have bought years ago
Good drill for the price, it is not heavy duty, but it was powerful enough for what I wanted,so yes I would recommend it for light/medium duty, good price
Lovely rugged product, enabled me to drill 40 holes in stainless steel with great ease. Wish I had bought one years ago.
Fault basic but for my hobby workshop it does the job. Fairly robust without any frills
Very good value. As long as you accept the limitations (limited vertical travel; no ratchet for the drill table, meaning you lose work alignment when changing bits), you can't really fault it in terms of value for money. Drilled square and true out of the box (after an easy assembly process). The belt was well tensioned as it came, meaning it works quietly. The chuck guard is a little bit of an annoyance... but once it's in your workshop you can choose what to do about that...
For the cost this is a great drill. Sturdy and easy to assemble and operate and ideal for the casual user like me. I bought this to replace an earlier model that lasted 30 odd years, in fact some of the parts (base & drilling table) are still the same as the earlier one. On/off switch more conveniently sited on this one and it has a neat emergency stop modification done to the switch and a more powerful motor. For the money you won't get better.
When the box was opened the starter switch housing was cracked. As everything else was OK I repaired this with adhesive.
Apart from this I'm happy with the product.
