It did the job I wanted, but the drill bit can bend in use. As with all things that try to do more than one job it is only ok. I needed it to drill holes in some timber fencing before screwing together. The bit got quite hot. Next time I will try to source a long wood drill bit, made specifically, to drill wood.
Great value bit from a great brand, ideal for pilot hole in masonary
Whilst these bits will go through pretty much any material, they are not great at doing so. I purchased them for the additional length but in future will stick to other brands.
I put in the search engine 3mm HSS long series bit. This came up but it's totally unsuitable for my purpose to drill though steel. It's a construction bit designed to drill though maisonary but able to drill though a very thin sheet of metal either facing or embedded. I contacted Toolstation and got the following reply "
I do apologise, as we are not technically trained on the items here at Toolstation, I would not be able to advise on this. All descriptions on our website are supplied by our suppliers." The suppliers site does not show the bit as compatible with steel so the description is wrong. Dont waste your money.
I went many times through floor boards into the concrete underneath to fix 5 and even 6 cm long screws. The drill bit did not snap and felt sharp.
The item is not as described. The TS description reads as follows: "Can be used in wood, masonry and metal. ", " Anti slip shank with 3 milled clamping surfaces prevent rotation of the drill bit in the chuck", "Suitable for wood, plastics, mild steel and non ferrous metal". The supplied product does not have an anti slip shank, the shank is round. The packaging states that the product is suitable for Aluminium, it does not state suitable for steel. The product looks like a masonry bit with a tip comparable to a impact masonry bit. Therefore not suitable fopr the purpose that they were purchased for.
This drill bit has taken a bit of a battering from me these last few days, metal and brick has been no problem up to yet, not sure how long it will last but up to yet no bother.
