Great as an adhesion primer for a suspected problem surface, for peace of mind.
I had a door where the old gloss topcoat was flaking off if scraped. Probably just thrown on without a undercoat by the previous homeowner, and I could easily have used normal primer undercoat but I didn't want to risk any issues with that adhering.
Scraped and sanded and dusted off, I used a coat of this. The tin suggests you can use 2 for problem surfaces but I just stuck to the one coat and then went on with 1 coat of normal acrylic primer undercoat, then 2 topcoats of water based satin. And it looks lovely so far a week in.
It's really nice to apply, nice and thick with some body to it not watery. Cleans out with water.
As for stain blocking ability I also used it to spot prime some patches of bold blue and also very old yellow gloss paint on a other door frame just to cover the colour, and then the same undercoat and topcoats. You wouldn't know the patches were ever there.
Time will tell but I think if it was so bad, it would be flaking off by now too.
A brilliant all surfaces primer, works well via spray as well. Used in repainting an old pine dresser.
I have used this product on mild steel sheet. I cleaned the sheet, rubbed it down with emery paper, cleaned off the dust, cleaned a second time with white spirit and left it for an hour to dry. I applied the primer and left it to dry and harden for two days (the weather is warm about 21 degrees) the paint readily scratched off with a fingernail. I therefore cannot endorse this product as a primer for metal.
Goes on great and covers well, brushes clean easily under running water.
Good quality primer when used with Bedec barn wood paint
