Not like the old original knife I had!

Lost my old Stanley knife and purchased this thinking it would be the same but it's nothing like the old one. It looks identical but it's nothing like. It keeps coming apart, the blade drops out for no reason, it's nowhere near as good.
I'm going to look for an old original at the car boot.

Good one

Terrible manufacturing from a fairly well known and trusted toolmaker. When screwed shut it is impossible to push out or withdraw the blade, this can only happen with the knife loosely screwed together making it very dangerous. I took it back to find that they are all the same and the staff said they have to use them loosely fastened when moving the blade.
On getting it home it is apparent that the two sides of the knife are very poorly cast or moulded and only resorting to a linisher allowed the mouldings inside the knife to be ground down becoming level enough for the knife to work as it should. You should not need to go to this trouble.
Stanley need to get a grip on their quality control. Until they do…. DO NOT BUY!

Poor design . The wheel to tighten the unit comes loose too easily. And when tightened too much the blade does not slide in and out

As others have noted the blade is a very tight fit as supplied, and the body needs filing to ease this up; Stanley ought to do better. Otherwise the kinife is sturdy and a reasonable shape to hold.

Can't fault it too much. Yeah sure you can't move the blade when you tighten it up fully. But is it the end of the world to either not tighten it fully or loosen it off a little. Takes all of 1 second.
Nice and solid metal construction.

Knife is really nice, comfy in hand, BUT if you tighten the brass blade change screw right down, preventing the knife body from rattling, then the blade retract mechanism sticks. The answer is to open the knife, find the splines that the blade carrier slides on and take all the paint/anodising of fthem, and rub them back a bit with some emery. It's still a bit sticky, but works better. Stanley - please do this at the manufacturing stage

Very sturdy and reliable knife with internal storage for spare blades. Rectractable swich works well because with clip roll you make it super tight and blade is not moving in or out. Done some flooring cuts and other bits - can't complain.
