The ratchet mechanism allows thicker branches to be cut. I used it on branches of an overgrown shrub successfully, where it cut stuff at various thicknesses up to 2".
Bought to replace some Fiskers that I broke, been used to trim some leylandii and Hawthorn hedge, works way better and stronger than the Fisker. Quite heavy to use for long period of time if used over head.

Broke on 4th branch. After trimming 3 branches around 15-20mm in diameter the next branch was around 30 mm and the cutting blade sheared straight off. Returned and exchanged for cheaper brand to finish the job. Stanley clearly not as I was expecting.
Absolute junk!!! Broke within 5 mins, supposed to be able to cut up to 50mm. Handle's folded like made of tinfoil, trying to cut through a 30mm branch.

They seem quite floppy - the two halves are not tight together and cannot be adjusted

These are the fist anvil style loppers I've owned and maybe I don't fully understand their purpose but they're not happy cutting anything over 20mm or so unless it's very soft. Maybe my fault straining and causing sideways movement but the 'gear' mechanism has collapsed over itself twice. Also the not particulary sharp blade already has a chip in it after what I think is relativley little use.
Seems pretty sturdy. Quite heavy. Cuts through shrub branches and roots.quite easily.
Poor design, just no need for the outrageous curve of the handles. Sharp, an okay for shrub removal, but useless for thinking out as the design hinders access and the gearing snarls up in other branches
Good product very sturdy and cut well. I would recommend these. The only slight issue I had was the red stop rubber fell out within a week. As I said a good product and up for the job
It lasted 2 days and snapped at the blade and head. Absolutely useless! I took it back to get a refund but was told I was 3 weeks too late. Well, I was busy using other, better quality loppers, and felt cheated. Very disappointed with Toolstation attitude to poor quality goods. I thought Stanley would be much sturdier. Please tell me these were manufactured in China and not UK!
Very strong and did a hard job of cutting hawthorn edge with ease, if i was to be picky longer handles would give more leverage.........But to be clear these are the best loppers i have used to date
