Good value for money, it does take a bit of adjusting if working outside (setting the delay to deal with sun) but it's got a good view window and the true colour feature comes in handy
In terms of building the helmet, there one or two good videos on YouTube which are vital if you don't want to spend hours figuring out for yourself.
Bought to replace a different model, also by Sip, on which the strap had broke.
While this one has a smaller field of view I was drawn to it by the 'true colour' lens, it might not appeal to pros but as an amateur welder I have found it much easier to see the pool with this lens which gives your view a blue hue.
I hope the strap lasts a bit longer than the last one.
Pleased with this mask. Works quite well. Auto feature functions correctly (no symptoms of arc eye which I guess is the main concern if it doesn't work correctly). Needs a bit of adjustment to get it to sit correctly on your head and it doesn't stay in the 'up' position very well - keeps falling down which is a slight annoyance. But overall, for the money, very good.
It makes striking an arc in the correct position much easier than with a conventional mask.
I haven't used it for a long enough stint yet to fully convince myself that it protect me as well, as a conventional mask; there's a niggling doubt that, even on most sensitive (quickest darkening) setting it may give some arc exposure.
One really annoying feature is that the box on the rear of the sensitivity adjustment knob is in exactly the right place to clash with spectacles. This and make proper positioning of the window relative to eyes difficult.
The mask I bought from Aldi a few years ago did not seem to be working properly so I decided to buy a new one. The SIP Meteor Electronic Welding Headshield Head Shield seems a bit flimsy compared to the Aldi one but it does the job. The helmet comes with the head frame in a separate bag. No problem you'd think. Putting the frame together was a right PITA. The instruction booklet has a very poor quality illustration of the head frame that really bears very little resemblance to reality. After a frustrating 15 minutes I figured it out and was then able to continue with my welding.
There are a lot of expensive auto dimming masks on the market but for the price this is really good value. The only criticism is that you need to assemble the mechanism which pivots the head strap to the mask which is a little fiddly but this is a one time thing. Overall an excellent mask for the money.
Works really well , and light weight good for work or home use
Does what its supposed to do . No battery solar powered good price
Great bit of kit at a great price. Toolstation is my number one place to buy from.
The mask works well, a smooth change from light to dark, spare lens covers also available.
Used auto welding masks for many years and found this model to be very clear and quick to react when the arc strikes!! Extremely good value for money!
Purchased the Meteor with the darkening knob on the outside. Having got it out the box I discovered the head band was not correctly assembled and the shield fell to my chest, took it to bits and about half an hour later got it back together. As said in other reviews, the headband is a bit flimsy feeling, but treated with a little care should be ok.
Testing the shield I struck the first arc (tig) with my eyes closed .. then peeked and found it had darkened. Adjusted to fast response , set the shade so suit and thats it. The clarity of the lens is ok, not exceptional , I hadn't removed the cover lens as it was new, so figured it was as clean as it was going to be, but later found a smudge on the inside of the cover lens, once removed and cleaned it was better.
I am surprised how well this shield performs, & being light makes it comfy for hours, how long it will last .. only time will tell, but at this price you really can't go wrong.
