I purchased this tool thinking it looks strong, sturdy and would be better than the standard design of two long single handles. However on using this particular design, the spilt handles lack precision and strength to dig, cut than a traditional hole post digger.
.Poor quality Toolstation will not take it back after assembling for left at the counter.
Little bit heavy but does what it says on the tin.
These are pretty good for digging loose stuff out of the bottom of holes and they’re double hinged so you move the handles inwards to scoop the earth. On the downside, they are quite heavy in themselves and the many bolted joints have a lot of play in them. I watched a YouTube video of post hole digging and the experts rotate the tool back and forth to dig down. I’m sure if you tried that method with these, all the bolt holes would be worn oval and it would be wrecked pretty quickly.
Good idea but doesn’t last not idea for the everyday use as a fencing contractor better for DIY.
Really helped with digging a deep narrow post hole, the traditional scissor spoons couldn't pick up the heavy clay. The Roughneck post hole digger coped no problem. Didn't get 5 stars due to the cost.
Quite an intense upper body workout, but digs neat post holes in the way a regular spade can not!
Nice idea and worked well for a few holes but broke soon after. Digger has a weak point where the spade heads attach onto the frame with rivets that break easily - possibly spot welds would be stronger. Returned for a refund with no fuss - good customer service from toolstation leicester
This is a great tool. Very strong and easy to use. It is a bit heavy but I guess that comes with the quality. Wish I bought this years ago.
I’m a fan of Roughneck and of the ruggedness and quality of their tools. This is no exception. Well made and fulfils its tasks extremely effectively. I like the fact that it can open and close within the confines of a deep narrow hole making it ideal for fence posts.
Gave 4* as had to put together for the price would of been better if built ready to go not a difficult job but still perfect for 5* but great tool would recommend it
Perfect tool for digging deep narrow holes for posts, task involved going down half a metre in clay soil which was achieved with some ease.
This is a much better way to dig holes than a conventional digger. The holes this made looked done by a large drilling machine. Little material is lost when removing it from the hole

Definitely does the job very well, very well made and feels sturdy.
On first sight, it looks great, but unfortunately, it's too heavy for someone who doesn't work full time in the construction/agriculture industry
