Very tight fit for rough cut 4x4; worthwhile smoothing/planing the timber first and then it does the job well. Fixed my part rotted gate post.
Post extender did the trick , ~ 6 inches of decent existing post was above ground level , just enough to lock this extender on to , the resulting post is pretty sturdy

Not my preferred way to repair a broken wooden fence post, but a robust solution in the circumstances of not being able to break out the worlds hardest lump of concrete. Was able to slip this over the broken stump and insert a new post in the top. Was able to better secure with some screws through the slots and finished off with a collar of concrete around the top.
I've use these post extenders several times. They are exactly as described, robust, easy to fit (no screws etc needed), and do the job. The ones I fitted two years ago still look like new and are holding up a two foot extension to a fence very solidly, against strong south west winds. Strongly recommended as a neat and easy solution to making fence posts taller.
This is a solid piece of box shaped steel that is strong enough to do the job. I strengthened the joint by using long screws through the fold in the extender just for added security. Be aware that there are some plates running on the other direction inside the extender that slightly increase the height of the fence.
Great product which was easy to fit, makes the joint secure and true. So long as you've got a decent weight hammer to drive this into the 2 connected post's you'll have no issue.

Good quality heavy gauge post extender with ridges on the inside to grip the post just tap them on the post with a hammer and a scrap piece of wood job done
