I used this Hawksmoor post shovel yesterday .it was brilliant and cut threw soil and clay no problem 2 ft down .then got it out with 2 spade grabber.in 2 hours put 3 post in ,2 gravel boards 2 x 5 ft fence panels in.concrete quick set .very happy with the Hawksmoor post shovel.recomend it to anyone buy it worked for me.
Great tool, it was exactly what we needed and at a good price
As its solid metal and a wooden handle you get a bit of kick back vibration/pain in your hands, unlike the wooden or shock proof ones which I never feel vibrations with
Great spade for the price , I managed to use it for a couple of hours yesterday before the rain paid a visit. Easily gets deep in the soil and is provides very good leverage. I’ll hopefully be using it again next week to prepare deep holes for concrete posts. No complaints so far though!
Spade width tapered between 10-14 cm and cuts to 40cm depth - great for uprooting plants in tight spaces. Heavy and seems unbreakable. I comparied it in the store with a pricier model and they seem identical - welds in the same place, identical paint colour, even the labels are in the same location (albeit different label text... Bulldog vs Hawksmore).
Two small negatives: The cutting edge is not sharp and would need manual sharpening to get a very clean cut through roots (but then you'd lose the HD rust protection). The place where you need to put your foot is mostly thin (3mm, widening right next to the shaft), so it could damage your shoe soles with repeated use.
Great I do not use it for drainage I use it for fence post holes
Well balanced and well built
Excellent and perfect for digging fence post holes
Solid construction, purchased to dig holes for fence posts and it makes the job very easy.
Recommended to use when digging out post holes. Wish I had bought sooner than using a trowel and lots of swearing. Helps with nice sized fence post holes. Got through tough ground and clay like a breeze. Not too heavy, good and sturdy, and a great price
We already had a steel shaft Hawksmoor standard digging spade which has been great so had no hesitation choosing this one.
A very good price for a post digging fork. I'm hoping it will prove durable.
Another good quality budget tool from hawksmoor. Lowest price does not seem to have impacted quality - full metal construction with wood insert for handle.
Made post hole digging slightly more bearable.
Fantastic quality, will last years. I put this to hard work immediately and it stood up to hard digging in solid clay with stones and concrete to break through. Really very good. Exceeded expectations. The handle was also well made and comfortable to use and there was loads of room to tread down on the spade on either side.
Does what it is supposed to do. I bit heavy so cannot use for too long.
Bought as I was digging up and replanting plus I want to put in some fence posts later on. This does the job easier than a regular garden spade and seems decent like the other Hawksmoor stuff I have bought Reasonable value for money compared to alternatives.
Good quality steel spade. Dug out for fence posts. Did it with ease.
This spade is absolutely great for digging postholes. Not only that it`s all metal apart from the hand grip at the top, which makes it very strong.
Nice sturdy, narrow spade. Handy for digging narrow trenches.
Only tool we bought that didn’t break. Built well and was welcomed when digging holes for new fence posts
Ideal tool for what we needed, well constructed with good materials.
