When installing the unit, a poor connection within the step-down voltage transformer resulted in intermittent light flashing and buzzing within the unit that ceased when pressing gently on the taped over connectors. Testing whether these would cease once sealed up, the light ceased flashing but the intermittent buzzing did not. I deemed this unacceptable, potentially unsafe and returned it.
The shaver light has a nice bright white light and a switchable 115/230v shaver socket on the left (which is quite rare).
However, the mounting system is not friendly (have to wire the backplate before attaching to wall) and the back cover takes a lot of effort to get flush when putting it back. The transformer is also fairly noisy and always running whether or not there is circuit draw.
So, some good features and it looks nice let down by really bad design...
Front cover is difficult to take off. Wiring needs to be done then rear panel re attatched. Then screwed trough from the front to attatch to a wall. Would be better if back panel was attatched from the front. Not user friendly design. Also the 110/240 neon is always illuminated.
Value for money and easy to install. Looks good too.
Easy to fit, looks great - the customer is very happy. Item ordered in store with free next day delivery, from a very helpful assistant.
As a DIY klutz I was pleasantly surprised at how straightforward the installation procedure was.
One of the supplied rawlplugs however is into plasterboard and not holding well, I'll need to replace with a heavier duty one.
The green pilot light provides enough light for nighttime bathroom visits too.
A good item for the price, was able to collect straight away from store. Fitting instructions a bit vague
This is a good looking product and the light level is good. However the installation is difficult due to the fact the wiring has to be completed before fixing it to the wall. The power to the transformer is constant making it buzz with the voltage indicator always lit. It would be better if it was switched to avoid this. With an Off/110/240v switch. The diffuser is very difficult to remove and refit and needed to be shaved to refit but I suppose it is a shaver light.
Excellent light, Bright, shiny, looks good. Easy to install. Reasonable price.
Easy to install, good light output but noisy transformer.
This was bought to replace a 30 year old shaver light which finally gave up the ghost. Visually it looks very up to date though perhaps a little flashy for some. Fitting is perhaps best described as a bit of a fiddle but not unduly difficult, as others have found I had to enlarge the hole on the back panel to accommodate the mains cable but this is a simple drilling job - don't make it too big though so as not to weaken the panel too much. As others have said, I noticed that the routing of the on/off pull cord was poorly thought out, this exits the unit at a sharp angle which will abrade the cord over time and with frequent usage, though it shouldn't be too difficult to replace. Moreover the light doesn't have to be switched on to use the shaver plug which is permanently live, so the switch might not need to be used on every occasion. There is a hum from the transformer which seems to be a common theme, I cured this fairly effectively by squeezing a small section of a rubber washer unobtrusively between the end of the casing and the wall. It isn't actually the transformer which causes the trouble, but rather the resonance it sets up between one surface and another, so it isn't difficult to dampen it out. So overall I'd say this unit is reasonably good though with a few shortcomings. It's a very common unit which is clearly sold under many different names, it looks presentable and does the job. All these units seem to be Chinese made now and are nothing like the quality of UK made items of yesteryear, but there simply isn't an alternative. Having said that they are decent value for money and the price and service at Toolstation were excellent as always.
A very bright light, excellent value and looks very smart too.
Replaced old tungsten bulb and fitting. Easy swap out.
Nice clean light, but not great quality. The light is bright and cool white, so great for doing hair or make-up.
However, it is quite fiddly to connect and there is not much space inside the casing to store spare wire, which you may need in order to screw the back plate onto the main light after connection but before wall mounting.
The other two issues are the buzzing noise from the transformer. This is reduced by ensuring the back plate is firmly screwed on and the light is screwed tightly to the wall. We are trying it out now to see whether the remaining noise can be tolerated in an ensuite bathroom.
The second issue is the brightness of the green LED that shows power is going to the shaver point. Why does it need to be both on all the time and, if it does, why make it sooo bright? Surely a subtle glow is enough?
On the good side, there is continuous power to the shaver point, so you can use it to charge shavers or toothbrushes.
The jury is out on whether this stays or goes
Very cheap looking and not well made, the light looks a lot better in photos.
Easy to install this item, good quality highly recommended.
After 2 months use the transformer started to become very noisy. Dismantling revealed that the transformer wasn't screwed tightly to the backing. Tightened 4 screws and this seems to have cured it. Time will tell. Thanks to another previous reviewer for identifying this solution. So check tightness befor installing. Top cover is very difficult to remove- prise very carefully with screwdriver at one end to release it. .
This was okay for the money but a bit plastic looking
Does the job and looks good. Having read earlier reviews it was easy enough to fit. Is a knack to getting front on and off.
Electrical connection at rear not easy with back cover off and unit not fixed to wall. Connect electrics, fit cover, fix unit to wall.
Also description states replacement bulb?!??
