Purchased this Type A RCD as needed to replace existing A/c RCD to prevent possible interference and failure between the two different types. A new consumer unit was being installed with a type A RCD which also powered an outbuilding - which had a Type A/c RCD. If two different type RCD are potentially on the same circuit they can blind each other in certain fault conditions and fail to operate.- so it’s important to ensure both are of the same type.

Bought 2 of these, both failed testing, carried out with neither the line or neutral of any circuits connected to the RCD (so no external interference).

One would not trip off even by pressing the test button on the device or 5x testing. The other tripped off even on 1/2x tests and a ramp test tripped it off so quickly my tester (a KT65) couldn't even display a result.

I then brought these back to store and got 2 of the 80A version instead. One of these wouldn't trip off on 1/2x (good), would trip off on 5x (good) and failed to trip off on 1x tests. The other one did have acceptable results; however, I intend to re-test this device on as regular a basis as I am able to as I have lost any trust in BG RCDs and will avoid any BG consumer units and protective devices for the foreseeable future, except in case of replacing failed devices or adding circuits to boards where I don't have a choice.

Not my choice of RCD but it's a BG Board not fitted by me. Let's hope this one lasts longer than 18months.
