Good tool. I had 12 weep vents to fit and it made short work of it.
Long, so needs to be sued slow and steady. Does the job and appears to do the job.
Had an old one for years. Then I brought a new one which bent on first use which could of been dangerous if broke off
This is a fantastic piece of kit for Masons and Brickys, helps release awkward bits of masonry without damaging other bits.
Copes easily with mortar in small increments about 20-30mm at a time. Any deeper if it starts catching it will snap.
I purchased one of these mortar rakes and set about using it. i used it for around 5 min and the thing just bent in the joint and flipped the tool out of my hands, cutting my finger.
I took it back and had it replaced only to have the same thing happen for a second time, only this time it spun out and smashed my Apple watch to pieces and bruising my wrist!
I followed the instructions to the letter, drilled an 8mm hole and carefully moved the rake back and forth in the mortar joint. they are not fit for purpose in my eyes.
I must add, this isn't a negative towards the tool station staff as they are fantastic.
Does well at removing old rotten mortar. It even would grind the brick if the joint was a lityle tight. It took a little lonher when it came to solid mortar but got through. Only used it to rake out for pointing but it should be ok removing a full brick. I'd give it a drilled hole to get started though.
Now long enough to go around a brick for removal , might struggle if the mortar is a strong mix , luckily mine is on the weak sandy side .
Not a bad tool to buy but can go blunt reasonably quickly pending on what mortar mix you are trying to get thru
Pretty good at removing soft mortar struggle a bit with harder stuff,
Great bit of kit speeds up removal of brickwork much easier 👍
Decent mortar rake, to get the best out of it i would stitch drill all around the brick first and work in the direction of rotation of the angle grinder when using the rake.
This will prolong the life of the rake and no need to apply pressure letting the rake do the work that way less chance of the rake bending.
When removing a brick i rake out the vertical joints first, then the lower bed joint and then when raking the upper bed joint the brick falls loose.
Very little if any remaining mortor to clean away before rebricking.
Great if you have alot oftime and only a few bricks to do .It wont replace the angle grinder but is far. less messy
Tool would do a good job, but isn't resilient enough
Good value, does the job, local store easy to get to
Not very good pricy didn't last long would not recommend this item would not buy again
This mortar rake is okay. I’ve bought several different brands of these over the years and find that they all start to wear out quite quickly. I think they are okay for removing small amounts of brick but don’t think they would last long enough for a large area.
Exactly what it says…………. Nothing more to say need a brick removed this is the tool
This tool is really good but it could do with lasting longer, sometimes it doesn’t last 5 minutes but Toolstation have accepted returns if the tool breaks after one day. If it lasted longer I would give it 5 stars
not great, pretty much bent straight away and was unusable
