Device itself is absolutely great, but setting it up on my home wifi was one of the most frustrating DIY jobs I have ever done.
I must have tried to get it to connect to my wifi 20 times or more, Using my router diagnostics, I could see the socket was connecting just fine, had good signal strength, but the app wouldn't find the socket.
Turns out that the BG app (iPhone) simply does not work.
There is another app in the app store called : Broadlink. This looks exactly the same as the BG app, but worked straight away.
Assuming BG will fix their app at some point so it will work!
Otherwise works great. We are using it to heat the hot tub during cheaper night time hours and switch it off during the day.
Can't get it to connect to WiFi and the support from BG is very slow and as yet has not resolved the issue.
Easy to install, not so easy to connect to network.. only works on 2.4gHz,so have to tweak the settings on the router...
Excellent product, easy to setup, brilliant functionality
I had no problems having to set it up, or keep it going. There's the odd time it doesn't turn on by my timer, but not sure why, could be a WiFi issue etc. However, after 4 months, it has now failed. Completely no power going through it, and my electrician rewired the whole house so it shouldn't be wiring issues. No rain entered as it is located in my covered porch anyway. Hoping BG replaces it but still disappointed
Easy to set up, not had a problem since installation
Works well but I’m concerned the the plug and socket gets warm with a 2kW load. I’ve had the non smart BG sockets overheat and eventually crack. (Again, a 2kW load but with different 13 amp plugs).
Solid fitting. Easy to fit to external wall with plenty of room to work with
Great outdoor box which is also smart which was simple to connect to
This is a complete waste of time. It is a nightmare to set up and it keeps losing connection even though it is in a good position and has a good wifi signal.
I would have returned it if it hadn't taken so long to install it in an awkward position which was the whole point of having a smart socket.
Another quirk was that when it worked for a whole 18 hours it kept turning the fountain on and off briefly at about 20 minute intervals.
In the end I kept the socket, kept it switched on and plugged in 2 tapo p100 plugs which work perfectly
Unless installed directly next to router this is absolutely useless as a smart socket, also every 10 mins or so all garden lights plugged into it. Flashed for a second.
Replaced an old BG outside socked that the latch had broken, hope this doesn't go the same way! this is the smart version which I find very useful in an outside socket.
Worked well for a while until I got a new router now one connects but won’t go online, tried and tried but it’s still offline. I’ll try again later.
I tried many times to connect to my WiFi but it failed every time. The BG website is very slow with lots of bugs. Not useful at all.
Buy something else. Don’t waste your time and money. Look up the reviews on Trustpilot!

BG outdoor weatherproof SMART control double socket
I bought this to control.my garden light. Easy to install but a nightmare to connect to set up with WiFi (and I like to think that I know what I'm doing).
