Plant hire firm Ridgway Rentals adds JCB VM118D soil compactors, 220X excavators and booms via Gunn JCB to its UK fleet.
Shropshire-based plant hire specialist Ridgway Rentals has expanded its machinery line-up with a new order of heavy machinery from British manufacturer JCB, placed through dealer Gunn JCB. The investment includes three of JCB's newly introduced VM118D soil compactors, alongside a fleet of 220X tracked excavators and articulated boom lifts.
The addition of the VM118D soil compactors represents an early commercial adoption of JCB's updated compaction technology. Designed for earthworks and sub-base preparation on groundworks projects, these machines join the 20-tonne class 220X excavators, which are widely used for site preparation, trenching, and structural foundations across civil engineering and commercial building sites.
For independent builders and groundworks contractors, this fleet expansion increases local hire availability for heavy-end site preparation equipment. While self-employed tradespeople and DIYers will not be buying 11-tonne rollers or 20-tonne excavators from trade counters like Screwfix or Toolstation, larger plant hire updates directly impact equipment access and rates on medium-to-large residential or commercial developments. Increased supply of modern machines at national hire depots helps keep daily and weekly rental rates competitive, while ensuring access to newer, lower-emission plant that meets modern site compliance and fuel-efficiency standards.
Contractors seeking to hire this specific machinery should verify local depot availability through Gunn JCB or plant providers, ensuring site operators hold the relevant CPCS or NPORS certification for operating heavy earthmoving and compaction equipment.
