Ariston Group expands its AEROTOP family with the Aerotop Evo P heat pump, utilizing eco-friendly R290 refrigerant for modern heating installations.
Ariston Group has expanded its HVAC portfolio with the launch of the Aerotop Evo P, representing the first heat pump range within its established AEROTOP family to adopt R290 refrigerant. The introduction marks a strategic move by the manufacturer to upgrade its renewable heating line-up in response to tightening environmental standards across the UK and Europe.
The integration of R290 (propane) allows the unit to operate with a significantly lower Global Warming Potential (GWP) compared to older synthetic refrigerants such as R410A or R32. This shift enables higher flow temperatures, making the system suitable for both new-build installations and retrofit projects where existing radiator networks are retained.
What does this mean for a UK tradesperson or DIYer actually buying this kit — does it change what they should pay, buy, or watch out for?
For plumbing and heating engineers purchasing through trade merchants, the launch of an R290-based monobloc unit means access to higher flow temperatures without requiring complete overhaul of domestic pipework. While natural refrigerant heat pumps often carry a slight premium over legacy R32 models at the trade counter, the use of R290 future-proofs installations against upcoming F-gas phase-downs. Heating engineers must note that handling R290 requires specific safety precautions regarding safe discharge distances and flammable gas handling during commissioning. DIYers and property developers should consult certified installers to confirm clearance requirements around the outdoor unit before specifying the Aerotop Evo P over standard air-source units.
The move to R290 is fast becoming the industry standard across leading heat pump manufacturers selling into the UK market. By transitioning the AEROTOP line to natural refrigerants, Ariston aligns its trade product offering with government decarbonisation targets and evolving building performance standards.
